An Update on ‘Cyborg to Be’

If we could cure aging in the next decade, wouldn’t you want to keep your body in tip-top shape until then?

According to biomedical gerontologist Dr Aubrey de Grey, “there is a 50% chance that we will reach longevity escape velocity (LEV) by 2036,” the point where a person’s lifespan is extended at a higher rate than at which they’re aging.

If he is correct in his prediction, that’s just 12 years away. For context, that’s closer to the present than the release of the first iPhone in 2007.

Ray Kurzweil, one of the most famous futurists in the world, predicts LEV will happen in 2028, four years from now, and the Singularity, where humans will be able to evolve to the next level by merging with machines, will happen by 2045.

How would we achieve this? Some experts say that we might defeat aging through the use of nanotechnology, which would eat away any bad or dead cells and diseases such as cancers and Alzheimer’s - essentially curing aging at the molecular level.

As many of you know, I’ve been enjoying exploring the field of longevity, and looking for ways to live until I’m at least 300 years old, filming my journey as part of my reality show Cyborg to Be.

To my surprise, what I’ve discovered so far from the experts I’ve interviewed is that most of what our grandmas taught us was right: there are benefits to eating the homemade meal your mum cooked. Eat your greens, play outside (i.e. exercise), and get to bed on time. It starts with making a conscious decision, and from there adopting these small daily and sustainable habits.

I’ve learned a lot, and will soon be taking my journey to the next level. When I’m back in Dubai, I will be undergoing a rigorous health regeneration and longevity 12-week program which will help me live longer and better.
